Police: Robber Holds Pliers, Threatens to Shoot

A 45-year-old Cicero man was charged with robbery after police say he displayed a pair of pliers and stole a young woman's iPhone, cash and credit card in Evanston.

Evanston police arrested a 45-year-old Cicero man after he held up a pair of pliers and threatened to shoot someone during a robbery Tuesday night, according to police.

Curtis L. Crawford, of the 2100 block of 49th Court in Cicero, is charged with aggravated robbery, a felony. 

Police say he approached a 23-year-old Evanston woman near Mulford Street and Custer Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, holding a pair of pliers.

“Give me everything you have or I’ll shoot you,” he told the woman, according to police. She handed over her iPhone, cash and a credit card, and Crawford ran away on foot, police said.

With the help of Chicago police, officers stopped Crawford in a vehicle in the Dominick’s parking lot in the 1700 block of West Howard St. in Chicago, according to police. The woman later identified him as the man who robbed her, police said.

Police also arrested the driver of the vehicle, Auteshia A. Williams, 27, of the 100 block of Clyde Avenue, and charged her with forgery after they discovered she had used the victim’s credit card to buy something at an Evanston gas station, according to police.
