Police Seek Info on Shooting Monday Night on Payne

The victim, who was shot in the legs, is not cooperating with the investigation, police say.

Police are investigating a shooting that happened in the 1700 block of Payne St. around 7:15 p.m. Monday.

Officers heard the shots fired and located a vehicle near Greenbay Road and Lincoln Street with several people inside, including a 39-year-old man who had been shot several times in the legs, police said.

The victim, who lives in Evanston, was taken to NorthShore Evanston Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officers were able to locate the crime scene on Payne.

Police said they initially detained two subjects for questioning, but they have been released. The victim is not cooperating with the investigation.

Police are also investigating a second shooting less than 24 hours later, this time in the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the detective bureau at 847-866-5040 or use the anonymous text-a-tip program by texting to CRIMES (274637) with EPD TIP in the message line followed by the tip information.
