Evanston police arrested a 57-year-old Wheeling man Thursday, whom they say sexually abused a 9-year-old Evanston girl.
Richard Coleman, of the 1600 block of Eagle Grove Court in Wheeling, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a felony, according to Evanston Police spokesperson Perry Polinski.
Police began their investigation in May, when the 9-year-old girl told a social worker at her elementary school in May, who in turn reported the incident to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
During their investigation, they learned that Coleman had touched the girl inappropriately while he was a houseguest, and that similar things happened while at his home in Wheeling, according to Polinski.
Evanston police worked with the school social worker, DCFS, the Children’s Advocacy Center and the Wheeling Police Department to build their case, Polinski said.
Des Plaines Police said the man was handcuffed and the two men began searching the home. The took money and several other items.
Police said that one point the man tried to escape the home by jumping out a window. The two men were able to catch him and proceeded to beat the victim and also tasered him in the face.
The two men then entered a white colored vehicle, described by the victim as looking like an undercover police car, and drove a way.
Two Men Sought in Servitax Robbery
Crystal Lake Police are searching for two men who robbed Servitax on Wednesday morning in Crystal Lake.
Shortly before 9:45 a.m. Aug. 7, two men entered the business located at 459 W. Route 14, and implied they had a weapon but a gun never was shown, according to a news release issued by Deputy Police Chief Derek Hyrkas.
The duo took an undetermined amount of money and several cellphones from the employees. The suspects ran away in the direction south of Servitax, Hyrkas stated in the release.
One of the male suspects was described as being Hispanic, about 5’5” tall, with dark hair. He was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans. A description of the second suspect was not available, police said.
Crystal Lake authorities are requesting that anyone who may have information regarding this case, however slight, to contact the Crystal Lake Police Department at (815) 356-3620.
Car Crashes into School, Sixth Grader Injured
A driver accidentally drove into a north-side entrance of Woodland Middle School Wednesday afternoon, injuring an 11-year-old student.
In a press release, Public Information Specialist Jennifer Tempest Bova said at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, the district "learned that a driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake" and drove into the school. She said the main entrance doorway was damaged but the building did not sustain structural damage.
A sixth-grader "sustained non-life threatening injuries, cuts and abrasions and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center," Bova said.
The body of Ronald Kite, 69, a Deerfield man missing since July 29was the person found Wednesday night in the Des Plaines River in Riverwoods just south of Deerfield Road, according to Chief Deputy Lake County Coroner Orlando Portillo.
Portillo confirmed Kite’s identity after the coroner’s office completed an autopsy. It was originally scheduled for Friday but moved up to tonight because a pathologist and forensic odontologist were available. The odontologist was able to indentify Kite from dental records.
After the examination, Portillo was able to confirm Kite was the person Riverwoods Police recovered from the Des Plaines River Wednesday by a dive response team after being called to the 600 block of Thornmeadow in Riverwoods.
“There is no suspicion of foul play,” Portillo said.
