Robber Demands Phone at Gas Station

The following information was reported by the Evanston Police Department on Tuesday, June 3, 2013. Where arrests are included it does not indicate a conviction.

The following arrests and incidents were reported by the Evanston Police Department:

Strongarm Robbery at Gas Station


A man demanded someone's cell phone in a strongarm robbery at a gas station at Asbury Avenue and Oakton Street at 10:37 p.m. Monday, June 3, police reported.

Arrests: Burglary, Battery, Retail Theft

Wayne L. Smith, 58, of the 2200 block of Emerson Street, was arrested and charged with battery after he pushed someone in the 2200 block of Emerson Street at 8:43 a.m. Monday, June 3, police reported. 

Hyun Jung Kim, 22, of the 2000 block of Sherman in Evanston, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she stole food from a grocery store in the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue at 11:59 a.m. Monday, June 3, police reported. 

Kevin Willie McGee, 46, of the 1900 block of Jackson in Evanston, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at his home at 9 a.m. Monday, June 3, police reported.

Frederick Kurt Riedel, 54, of the 1800 block of Sherman Avenue, was arrested and charged with burglary at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, June 1, in the 1900 block of Jackson, according to police.

Battery Reported at Austin and Custer

A man grabbed his victim by the shirt at 8:39 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Austin and Custer, according to police. 

BMW, Toyota Stolen in Auto Thefts

Someone stole a two-door silver BMW with the license plate L459599 from the 400 block of Kedzie between 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, and 12 p.m. Monday, June 3, according to police. 

Someone stole a four door gray 2009 Toyota with the license plate R275409 from the 800 block of Mulford Street between 1:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, police reported.

Bike Stolen From Apartment

Someone stole a Trek 4700 bicycle that was locked up in an apartment or condo common area in the 800 block of Elgin Road at 3 p.m. Monday, June 3, police reported. 

Retail Theft: Bacardi Liquor

A man stole Bacardi alcohol from a grocery store in the 2700 block of Green Bay Road between 7:17 and 7:19 p.m. Monday, June 3, according to police. 

Toilet Ripped From Wall at Library

A man ripped the toilet from the side of the wall at the Evanston Public Library main branch between 1 and 1:37 p.m. Monday, June 3, according to police.
