Robbery Victim Dies of Injuries

A notice from the Evanston Police Department.

From the Evanston Police Department:

On Sept. 2, at 5:20 a.m. the victim in this case, now identified as John Costulas of Chicago, Illinois, was walking east bound in the 500 Blk. of Howard st. Evanston, on his way to work. Evanston Police have now determined that as the victim approached the Marathon Gas station located at 555 Howard St., two assailants approached Mr. Costulas, and without provocation, physically attacked him. This physical assault involved one of the assailants violently striking Mr. Costulas in the head, which caused him to fall to the ground. The offenders, then acting in concert, looked out for possible witnesses, while the other offender went through the victims pockets. The offenders then fled the area as Mr. Costulas lay on the ground, unconscious and bleeding. Evanston Police responded and began an investigation, requested Evanston Fire Paramedics who responded, treated and transported Mr. Costulas to a local hospital.

Due to his extensive injuries as a result of the attack, Mr. Costulas has remained hospitalized since the date of the incident.  On September 10th, Mr. Costulas succumbed to his injuries, dying at 3:38am. The Evanston Police Department is working with the Cook County Medical Examiners office in order to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
