Shots Fired in Possible Gang Fight, Police Say

Two people exchanged gunfire late Sunday night near Emerson Street and Hartrey Avenue, according to police. No victims have come forward, and police do not have any identified suspects.

Two people exchanged gunfire late Sunday night near Emerson Street and Hartrey Avenue in what may have been a gang-related incident, according to police.

Police were called to the intersection around 11:36 p.m. Sunday, April 14, after hearing multiple reports of shots fired, according to Evanston Police Commander Jason Parrott. They found 20 shell casings on the ground and five cars and three residences in the area were left with bullet holes.

Based on eyewitness reports and the fact that the casings belonged to two different caliber weapons, police believe the incident involved two people shooting at one another, Parrott said.

Officers are searching for a black minivan that may have been involved in the incident, and fled the area, according to Parrott. He said police have not identified any suspects yet, and no victims have come forth.

“Based on the circumstances, it appears to be possibly gang-related,” he said.

The fact that two people exchanged multiple gunshots, and no witnesses have come forward reporting injuries tends to support that conclusion, he said.
