Superintendent: Shooting Victim and Suspect Not Enrolled at ETHS

The information went out in a note to families earlier this week.

The 16-year-old victim of was not attending classes at Evanston Township High School and the suspect is not currently enrolled, according to ETHS Supt. Eric Witherspoon.

In a note to parents, Witherspoon said the victim was "attending school in another setting."

"Even though the alleged shooter and the victim involved in this shooting were not attending classes here at ETHS, they were in a public restaurant where many of your classmates were eating and socializing after school on Friday," he said.

A witness on the scene of the shooting Friday told Evanston Patch that she identified the shooting victim as an ETHS student. She identified him correctly and Patch has confirmed his name, though his status as a student was not released until the statement came out.

The shooting suspect, says on his Facebook page that he attended ETHS.

"As citizens of the ETHS community, we must protect ourselves and protect others. Please be a responsible human being. Do your part to stop violence," Witherspoon said.
