Teen Felon Arrested for Possession of Loaded Gun in Evanston

The Mount Prospect 18 year old had a gun with an obliterated serial number, police said.

Evanston police arrested a Mount Prospect teen, who is a convicted felon, for being in possession of a loaded gun Friday afternoon, according to police.

A special operations group that has been working in the area of several recent shootings saw a group of people gathered in front of the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center at 1655 Foster around 3:30 p.m. Friday, according to police. Officers knew the subjects as being associated with gangs and, as they approached, smelled cannabis, police said.

One of the subjects had a “significant bulge” that led police to search him, police said. The subject, identified as Jamal M. Dumas, 18, of the 1600 block of Cottonwood Dr. in Mount Prospect, had a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun. The gun’s serial number had been obliterated, police said.
