Two families were displaced after a fire broke out in a home in the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue Thursday afternoon.
No one was injured, according to Evanston Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl.
The blaze broke out around 3:20 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at 1939 Jackson Ave., a two-story frame residential house, Hohl said. Residents of two units had evacuated the property by the time firefighters arrived.
They found heavy smoke on the north side of the house, and more heavy smoke and fire in the second floor bedroom. Firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the blaze, which had spread to the attic, according to Hohl.
The fire department is still investigating the cause and origin of the fire, Hohl said, while the Red Cross is assisting the two displaced families.
