Alderman Jean-Baptiste Expected to Announce Resignation

The 2nd Ward alderman will step down to become a Cook County Circuit Court judge.

During tonight’s City Council meeting, Alderman Lionel Jean-Baptiste (2nd Ward), is expected to announce his plans to resign after being appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve as a judge in the Cook County Circuit Court. According to the Daily Northwestern, Jean-Baptiste will continue to serve Evanston as an alderman until Feb. 28 and begin his duties as a judge March 4.

On the agenda this evening, the council will vote on a slew of maintenance projects and services like comprehensive parking garage repair and inspections and repairs for fire vehicles. The council will also vote on whether or not to transform the former site of Kendall College, 2408 Orrington Ave., into a 19 single-family lot subdivision.
