Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan.

NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you."

The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy.

The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from both candidates. After a weak performance after the Republican Convention, Romney surged following Obama’s listless performance after the first presidential debate. Nevertheless, the president cemented a lead in battleground states heading into Tuesday’s election.

It was a surprise to no one that Obama carried his homestate of Illinois.

Deerfield Resident...I live in Kenilworth on the lake. You live in Deerfield. So much for your negative fantasies about me. You sir are a joke. Enough said.

DF Resident...Fear not oh frightened one. I do not own a gun. I do have an impressive collection of walking sticks from around the world. Some of historical significance. I would never consider risking damage of even one of them to use as a weapon...especially on the likes of you sir. Your comments reek of fear...on many levels...but remember this: "The only thing to fear is fear itself". Therefore ... your enemies actually reside within. Get yourself some professional help.

Maybe Illinois could market itself as the US gulag and get paid by other states which might want to send their crooks, crazies and corrupt politicians to their natural habitat.

Yes, and maybe they could START with our bloviated MILITARY. That's "government spending" too, but in any case, we can't cut our way to prosperity. How about raising revenues by having Billionaires come back from their decade long Tax Holiday so they can start investing in their country again?....If Tax Cuts for Billionaires created jobs, as conservatives want you to believe, we'd be SWIMMING in jobs by now. Isn't that painfully obvious? Beyond that, G.G, who do you want to cut?...Veterans?...Senior Citizens?..The Disabled? How about we cut the greedy, right wing crap instead?.

And where did Reagan pick up that phrase from? John Winthrop. Claiming America as a divinely inspired model country is not something new in American rhetoric.
Bucephalus November 09, 2012 at 05:14 PM
Dan, your answer is a brilliant example of a "non-sequitor." You provided no answer to the question. In fact, you didn't even mention auto workers (or anyone else in a similar occupation) in your answer. You heard the question and then proceeded in a completely different direction. Would you care to offer an explanation for how state funded pensions, which also existed in the 50s and 60s, have led to an erosion in the median income for blue-collar workers?

I love how most of you are ecstatic that BO got re-elected, as if it changes anything. He didn't do anything his first four years except Obamacare which is a horrible idea and will continue to crush small businesses. Besides that, he did nothing. Sure, some of you can claim he killed Osama Bin Laden, but all he did was say Yes to the easiest question ever probed to man in the history of the world. I can't possibly understand why anyone, except minorities, which aren't really minorities anymore, would vote to give him four more years. He failed us as a president, broke almost every promise he made, and spent the last six months dividing the nation, pitting classes and races against one another. How can you approve or trust a man who allowed his campaign to be so maniacal and polarizing. He himself said in his speech at the DNC in 2008, "If you don't have a record to run on, you paint your opponent as someone people should run from." Well he proved to us in this campaign, that not even he can deny he failed the country the last four years. I hope you are all happy who elected him; more debt, more taxes, more government, more stagnant, if even that, growth. How Obama made 51% of the country despise and dislike Mitt Romney, one of the more glowing figures of success, faith, devotion, & dedication is impressive but proof of how evil he truly is. The worst part is, those who supported BO this election really just don't understand how much better our country could be with Romney

Oh, and economists and analysts are already projecting we are going to enter into another recession. Fiscal Cliff? Pft big deal, keep spending!

"I didn't get Mitt Romney for president!..Bwaaahh!! Good grief, NS, where did you learn to whine that way?...Please tell me you're not over the age of twelve, because you sound like someone of the age of Ten! Your little rant is so full of absurdities, I haven't time to address them all.. "Obama made people despise Mitt Romney"??..Excuse me..He "made" him? Gee, apart from the excellent case that could be made that he did it all by himself, I had this crazy idea that Mitt, being all "presidential" and all, was at least a Grown Man...Is there something ELSE we don't know about him?. Sorry, NS, but this one is all but hysterical...Apart from what I've already mentioned, you need to learn that no one can "make" anyyone dislike anyone else. Consider that Romney, with all his lies and dollars, couldn't "make" America hate the president. I give him an 'A" for effort and all, but he DID fail in the undertaking. Good God, The Sour Grapes and "sore loser" mentality on this forum is almost frightening...You're whining, and blaming, and bawling like kids..Please..Grow up!
Just Sayin November 09, 2012 at 07:27 PM
Jim...Bernie only fooled those blinded by greed.
Just Sayin November 09, 2012 at 07:34 PM
Jim...You sir are clearly among the 3% regardless of who won. Stop your infernal whining ...it's really childish.

Against Unions: Not only are you stupid, you're too rude and classless to be successful at any level. You say the "feeloaders" voted for Obama?...That's funny, because this "freeloader" and her spouse are college graduates, live on the North Shore, have a shared income WELL into six figures, and, by the way, pay TWICE Mitt Romney's Tax rate. Now how does that compare to YOUR lifestyle, AU? I'm betting you're not even close, and by the way, we all know that your use of "freeloaders" in this case really means "Blacks on welfare". Too bad you lack the gonads to just say it.

Just sayin.... You said you're from kenilworth.....No one with any tact from keilworth uses a moniker like "just sayin" - unless you're a kid.....and you're ripping Deerfield - 2 of your new reps live in deerfield! Judging by your last comment "JIM - BERNIE ONLY FOOLED THOSE BLINDED BY GREED" AND YOU LIVE IN KENILWORTH??????? you wished you lived in kenilworth because you ripped anyone who was successful. Lets give facts here_ I pay 30% in taxes, contribute to 4 charities, employee 50 people with roughly 30 families...I GIVE MORE THAN I TAKE... Oh... and none of my extended family sleeps with anyone of the same sex or has anythng not resembling a traditional 2 parent family.... Your turn..fill in the blanks because anyone who lives in kenilworth either earned there money of which they s/b proud or they inherited it which isn't a bad way to go through life either...see I'm not a jealous person like you. Well...lets see your stats...care to back off the kenilworth claim? Do you take more than you give? And maybe the people here in this little discussion will know to ignor your little quips. "just sayin"..prove you have the background to be in this forum or just go away and continue to mooch off the gov't

I fear we have reached the tipping point predited by Alexis de Tocqueville more than 175 years ago: "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

Just Sayin: Excellent insight regarding those fooled by Madoff, just excellent.
Jim November 09, 2012 at 10:12 PM
There seem to be an awful lot of folks who do not believe that and who believe that history does not apply to us. Hope you are not anywhere around when history proves them wrong. They will be very upset.
Deerfield Resident November 09, 2012 at 10:39 PM
A.M. Kelly Your another one...First....Obama doubled the debt and you said he's handled it? Second...good job getting Osama but it was inevitable and give the credit to our special forces of which YOU and your like don't want to fund! Third and most important, most "RICH" (of which you're obviously not) pay their fair share in taxes. I'd say 30%+ is enough don't you think? Sure few skate by but allot more of you liberals skate by with not wanting to work because it's more affordable to NOT WORK! You won the election because your base is unfortunately growing and that's not a healthy sign for any prosperous Country. I say to you this....if you do pay taxes....and you see a nice little tax increase in your mail soon...drop me a note and maybe I'll take your interview for a job to help pay for it!!!! 4 more years of this fool and you'll all realize that socialism is death to any Country that aspires to be great instead of mediocre....Have a nice weekend - I will!

@AM you have a distorted sense of history. No one had a better shot at UBL than Clinton. Terrorism is not one person, evidenced by Libya 9/11.....i know, i know it was the video. But lets set some records straight: Obama said Bush was unpatriotic for running up a 4T deficit in 8 years while he ran up a 6T deficit in 4. Obama said he would leave Medical Marijuana to the States, while he directs the Attorney General to enforce the banking laws and uses the IRS to audit the Dispensaries, effectively making it impossible for them to operate. Lets see whats happens in CO and WA with legalization. Obama used a Drone Strike in Yemen to kill Anwar al-Awlaki, he was a US citizen and born here, he was entitled to a trial of his pears according to the Constitution before he can be killed for Treason. The information to get UBL was gotten by water-boarding and the Hunt for UBL began way before Obama became President.....that's right Torture, and another thing Obama said he was vastly against. Gitmo is still open..... Shall I go on?

Deerfield Resident: You seem to enjoy bragging about your "riches", but the odd thing is, you show so little of the intelligence, education or refinement commonly associated with that status. On the contrary, you seem like a greedy little money grubber, the sort often described as "Knowing the Price of everything but the Value of nothing". I wouldn't trade my intelligence, values, or education for every dollar you might own.

Good thing the Republicans took over the HOUSE half way through first term. Got businesses to start hiring again
RB November 10, 2012 at 01:33 AM
Deerfield Resident, "Oh... and none of my extended family sleeps with anyone of the same sex or has anything not resembling a traditional 2 parent family". So, you must have a pretty boring Thanksgiving Dinner! Must only discuss football and you certainly would not be supportive so you'll not hear about any of your relatives being gay, they won't tell you with your attitude. Hopefully, they will find support elsewhere. Traditional 2 parent family? Would that include one like Newt has. Married 4 times, cheated on former wife with his current wife....but he qualifies for your 'traditional family' approach, along with David Petraius who had to resign today for cheating on his wife in his 'traditional marriage'. 50% divorce rate in 'traditional' marriages! You are an insult to society, stuck in the 50's and equality will win over bigoted attitude like yours.
RB November 10, 2012 at 01:34 AM
Deerfield Resident. Go join the Taliban, they are more closely aligned with your mindset.
RB November 10, 2012 at 01:36 AM
And Mr. Bush lowered taxes and created our pitfall that Mr. Obama is finally pulling us out of. The Republicans need to dump the Tea Party and start reform or they will not exist in 8 years.
The Q November 10, 2012 at 01:47 AM
You think lowering taxes killed the econemy.......tell me how that's works? What killed the econemy was policies to get every American in a home regardless of if they could afford it. Plain and simple. We have changed nothing rates are lower than ever and banks are still out of control. Only problem is investors are not a dumb to buy the crappy debt. Nothing makes an econemy grow faster than low taxes. Just think about it, lower taxes equal more money to spend. Only problem is we have out of control govt spending so they have you fooled into thinking they know how to spend your money better than you do or you don't pay federal tax so you don't care.....

Please explain the Bin Laden water boarding comment. Everything I have seen and read says the exact opposite: that it was not involved.
The Q November 10, 2012 at 01:12 PM
Leon Panetta, the CIA director, has confirmed that controversial “enhanced interrogation techniques” such as waterboarding yielded intelligence information that ultimately led to Osama bin Laden.
