City Supports Howard St. Wine Bar, Invests $360,000 in Plan

The bar would move into a building the city bought last year to spur economic development.

The Evanston City Council voted Monday night to underwrite the cost of a $130,000 loan for a couple planning to open up a wine bar on Howard Street, the Evanston Review reports.

The city bought the building the bar would occupy, at 629 Howard St., last year in hopes of spurring economic development in the area, the article says. The $230,000 purchase price plus the loan brings the city’s total investment to more than $360,000
