Construction on Dempster St CTA Purple Line Viaduct to Begin Oct 31

A notice from the city of Evanston.

As part of the Evanston (CTA Purple Line) Viaduct Replacement Project, work will be begin on October 31 that will affect the Dempster St. viaduct between Sherman Ave. and Sherman Pl. as part of the work on the $10.3 million contract to replace the Purple Line viaducts at Grove, Dempster and Greenleaf Streets in Evanston as well as repair the retaining wall along Chicago Avenue from Greenleaf to Hamilton.

While progress sometimes comes with inconveniences, workers will do their best to keep them to a minimum. To learn more about this project and get updates, visit www.cityofevanston.org/purpleline.

  • Monday, October 31 thru Friday, November 18, 2011 (continuous)
    Dempster Street between Sherman Place and Sherman Avenue will be closed to thru traffic. One sidewalk will be kept open at all times for pedestrian traffic.
  • Monday, October 31 thru Friday, November 18, 2011, 7am to 5pm, Weekdays and Saturdays, November 5 and 12, 2011, 8 am to 5pm
    Installation of caisson liners, H-piles and caissons will cause some noise from installation equipment,
    cranes, and heavy truck activity.
