Arrington Foundation Donation to Be Recognized
The public is invited to be part of the public recognition of a $500,000 donation to the City of Evanston from The Arrington Foundation at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29 at the Dawes Park Lagoon, Sheridan Road at Church Street. Evanston's mayor, the honorable Elizabeth B. Tisdahl, will join Evanston City Council members, City staff, and residents in thanking The Arrington Foundation for the generous donation, which will help fund a major renovation project for the Dawes Park Lagoon.
Michael B. Arrington, an Evanston resident, will represent The Arrington Foundation. The Foundation’s donation is being made in memory of Michael’s father, the late W. Russell Arrington, a legendary member of the Illinois House and leader of the Illinois Senate. Senator Arrington’s legacy was the subject of the book, Powerhouse: Arrington from Illinois, by Taylor Pensoneau.
In addition to the $500,000 donation, the renovation project will be funded by $100,000 from the City’s Capital Improvement Program. City staff also has applied for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
