Clark Street Sidewalk Brick Replacement Project to Begin August 22

Starting August 22nd, for five weeks, the City of Evanston will be contracting brick sidewalk replacements on Clark Street from Sherman Avenue to Orrington Avenue. The purpose of the brick replacement project is to enhance pedestrian mobility and safety on Clark Street. This project is funded by Washington National TIF funds and there will be no direct charge to the abutting property owners.

The scope of work will include replacing the existing pavers with a new concrete sidewalk, installation of new roadway curbing, placement of brick paver bands behind the curbing, and replacing the existing tree grates and frames.

Construction will begin the week of August 22nd with the entire project expected to be fully completed by third week of September. During construction the traffic will be maintained on Clark Street.

The construction is planned in two stages. The stage I construction shall consist of the sidewalk brick replacement on the north side of Clark Street. During stage I, parking will be available on south side of Clark Street. The sidewalk brick replacement on south side of Clark Street is scheduled during stage II, during which time parking will be available on the north side of Clark Street. Construction zone “No Parking” restrictions will be in effect on one side of Clark Street at any given time. Allowances have been made to maintain pedestrian access to businesses/residences for entire duration of construction. .

The contractor for this street improvement is Schroeder & Schroeder Inc., located at 7306 Central Park Avenue, Skokie, Illinois 60076.  The project is under the supervision of the City of Evanston’s Division of Transportation. The Resident Engineer in the field will be Dan Manis who will be directly responsible for all aspects of the construction.
