Evanston Aldermen to Consider Waste Transfer Site Proposal

A commercial landscape waste transfer station has been proposed for the former auto junkyard site on Oakton Street.

Evanston aldermen will consider a proposed zoning change tonight that could allow the creation of a commercial landscape waste transfer station at 2535 Oakton St., according to a city council agenda packet posted online.

Jim Seckelmann and Scott Schoeller want to open The Mulch Center of Evanston, which would sell landscape materials and operate a yard waste transfer facility, according to city documents. They would target landscape contractors who could drop off materials such as grass clippings, branches and trimmed greenery and purchase supplies at the same site.

Seckelmann and Schoeller say the waste would be trucked away at least once if not twice a day, in contrast with the city’s former compost site at James Park, where waste was left to moulder on site and neighbors complained about unpleasant odors, Evanston Now reported.
