Evanston City Council to Vote on Assault Weapons Ban Monday

The proposed ordinance would ban the 'possession, transfer, sale or display of assault weapons' in Evanston.

A proposed assault weapons ban for the City of Evanston is on the agenda for Monday night's city council meeting

Dozens of people spoke passionately on both sides of the issue before the city council two weeks ago when the ordinance was introduced.

Many North Shore municipalities have taken up the issue of assault weapons before the concealed carry law passes in Illinois July 9 and prohibits local bans. Click here to read about each community’s actions so far.

Evanston's proposed ordinance reads:

Ordinance 76-O-13 amends Title 9, Chapter 8 of the Evanston City Code of 2012 to specifically ban the possession, transfer, sale or display of assault weapons in the City of Evanston.

Evanston Patch will be at the meeting. Check back Monday night for coverage.
