Evanston Considers High Def Cameras for City Council Meetings

Evanston aldermen are scheduled to vote on a contract to replace the video cameras, mixer and microphones in the City Council Chamber.

 

Soon Evanston residents might be able to watch City Council meetings in high definition. 

Evanston City Council is expected to vote on a $43,167 contract with Bensenville-based AVI System to purchase and install new video cameras, mixer and microphones in the City Council Chambers at the Civic Center, according to the city’s website.

City officials told Evanston Now that the old three-camera system is obsolete and failing and that the new four-camera system will include a camera on the west wall, behind where the aldermen sit, and be able to capture faces of people speaking at the center podium. 

AVI Systems has provided similar video systems for the Village of Skokie and Cook County government over the past two years, Evanston Now reported.
