Evanston Hires First Cultural Arts Coordinator

The following press release was submitted by the city of Evanston:

Evanston City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz has announced the appointment of Jennifer Lasik as the City’s new Cultural Arts Coordinator. This new position was authorized by the City Council earlier this year in response to recommendations in the evanstARTs community arts roadmap report that was produced through a community dialogue sponsored by the Evanston Community Foundation, Evanston Arts Council and the City of Evanston.

Ms. Lasik comes to Evanston from the City of Kemmerer, Wyoming, where she served as Director of Cultural Arts and Events since 2008. In that capacity, she created a community-wide arts program which included the launch of a new cultural events center and a number of now well-established arts programs and events. In addition to her work in Kemmerer, Lasik served as a member of the Executive Board of the Wyoming Arts Council as an appointee of the Wyoming Governor.

“Jennifer has an outstanding track record of community engagement. Her work in Kemmerer brought people together from all walks of life and involved them in the arts. Jennifer has an enthusiasm and passion for her work that will be contagious throughout Evanston,” said City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz.

Prior to her time in Wyoming, Lasik served as a teacher and development director in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Lasik has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Slippery Rock University and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Lasik will be a direct report to Bobkiewicz and begin her duties in Evanston on November 18, 2013.
