Evanston residents and small businesses have until June 20 to opt-out of the city’s electric aggregation program without penalty or a cancellation fee, according to a press release.

Residential and small commercial retail customers are automatically enrolled in the city’s electric aggregation program and receive a 100 percent renewable fixed rate of $0.05192 per kilowatt-hour through August 2014.

The new rate will take effect within the next one or two billing cycles based upon the account’s meter read date.

For customers who want to opt-out of the program, they can fill out and mail a form the city has sent to all residents, call the city’s electricity supplier Verde at 1-800-241-0295; or fill out the form and e-mail it to service@lowcostpower.com.

Residents and small businesses who are not eligible for automatic enrollment but are otherwise eligible for the aggregation program will receive an opt-in letter with instructions for joining the program. These customers can join the program at any time. Residents and small businesses can contact Verde at 1-800-241-0295 with questions about eligibility for the opt-in program.

Verde, which serves 27 municipalities through aggregation programs, participated in the city’s open Request for Proposal process to select an electricity supplier for the city’s ongoing electricity aggregation program. The city received multiple bids, and the Verde proposal offered the lowest price.
