Evanston Limits Door-to-Door Soliciting, Politics Exempt

The city imposed new restrictions on panhandlers and solicitors in residential neighborhoods to daylight hours only.

Evanston aldermen unanimously approved limiting door-to-door soliciting from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and limiting panhandling to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday through Saturdays; both activities are banned on Sundays and national holidays, Evanston Now reported.

Under the ordinance, soliciting is defined as pitches for commercial products and services and request for gifts to non-profit organizations, campaign petition signatures would be exempt, Evanston Now reported.
