Mayor Will Answer Your Questions in 140 Characters or Less

Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl will host the city’s first Twitter Town Hall on Feb. 15. She will answer tweeted questions from 6-7 p.m. Residents can start submitting questions via Twitter this Wednesday.

“We hope that people find our information interesting and helpful, and that residents see that social media platform as another way to talk to the city and get information,” said Adelita Hernandez, the city’s citizen engagement coordinator.

The city in November with an Tweet Along. The department sent out information about its activities for an eight-hour period. Hernandez said the event was a huge success and garnered the city’s Twitter account 1,000 new followers.

“We thought we’d keep the momentum going,” after that, she said. The city now has nearly 3,000 followers.


Hernandez didn’t know of any other communities in the area that have held Twitter Town Halls, though the White House has embraced the forum.

Tisdahl intends to tweet about both economic development and 2012’s Safe Summer Initiative. Other than that, she will answer questions submitted by followers, Hernandez said.

To submit a question starting Wednesday or live during the Town Hall, you must  follow the city’s twitter feed @CityofEvanston and use the hashtag “#askTisdahl”.
