Evanston Mother of Slain Teen Protests Zimmerman Verdict

Carolyn Murray, whose son, Justin, was shot and killed last year, wore a hoodie to Monday night's city council meeting in protest of Zimmerman's acquittal.

Wearing a black hoodie over her head and holding a photograph of her son, Justin, who was shot and killed last November, Evanston resident Carolyn Murray stood up at Monday night's city council meeting to protest the verdict in George Zimmerman's murder trial.

A jury acquitted Zimmerman Friday in the fatal shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, according to CNN. The 17-year-old died after he and Zimmerman got into an altercation in the apartment complex where Zimmerman lived and was a neighborhood watch volunteer.

"I come here to protest the verdict of George Zimmerman," said Murray, who was accompanied by roughly a dozen Evanston teenagers, also wearing hoodies over their heads. Martin was reportedly wearing a hoodie the night he died, and protesters around the country have worn hoodies this week to show their opposition to the verdict.

Murray said she came "to show support for innocent young men that have been murdered in our nation and our city."
