Evanston, Wilmette Team Up to Repair Isabella Street

Work starts Monday, Feb. 25, and is expected to last until the end of May.

Part of Isabella Street will be shut down for construction beginning Monday, Feb. 25, for approximately one week.

The City of Evanston and the Village of Wilmette are working together to give the street a major makeover, with construction expected to last through the end of May, according to a press release.

The project will take place on Isabella Street between Highland Avenue and Ewing Avenue/ 14th Street and will include the installation of a relief sewer, concrete repairs to curbs, roadway base repair, asphalt resurfacing and selected sidewalk and driveway apron replacements. There will be no direct charge for abutting property owners for the repair work.

Street Closures and Parking Prohibitions

Two blocks will be closed at a time on Isabella Street for sewer construction until the sewer work is completed.  Some residents with driveway or alley access to Isabella Street within the construction limits may have interrupted access but residents will be notified in advanced of any driveway closures.

The first segment of construction begins Monday, Feb. 25, and will last approximately one week. During that time, Isabella Street will be closed to all traffic between Reese Avenue and Lincolnwood Drive on the Evanston side, or for approximately 150 feet east and west of 15th Street on the Wilmette side, according to city officials. 15th Street will also be closed to through traffic between Isabella Street and Gregory Avenue in Wilmette, with traffic detoured down Gregory Avenue.

Street parking will be prohibited within the limits of the sewer construction for the majority of the project. Parking restrictions will be posted intermittently within the limits of street resurfacing as needed. Residents should use legal street parking spaces on adjacent side streets for their on-street parking needs.

Street sweeping and neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived during temporary daytime parking prohibitions for the one-block radius around the construction zone on Isabella Street between Highland Avenue and Ewing Avenue, according to city officials.

Wauconda-based Berger Excavating Contractors is the contractor for the construction project, which is under the supervision of Wilmette’s Engineering Division.

Residents with questions or concerns regarding the construction are directed to contact Dan Manis, resident engineer, at 847-331-0560 or 847-853-7621.
