First Annual Evanston Flying Turkey 5K Set for Thanksgiving Day November 24

A notice from the city of Evanston.

The First Annual Evanston Flying Turkey 5k will take runners and walkers around a beautiful course that highlights Evanston's lakefront and Northwestern University's campus. The event will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 24, 2011. The starting area is the corner of Church and Sheridan. The Flying Turkey 5K is an event for all ages and a great way to start off the Thanksgiving holiday. The registration fee before November 1st is $30. After November 1st, the fee is $35. The fee for the Kids’ Race is $15.

The first 1,000 registered runners will receive a crew neck sweatshirt. Medals will be awarded to the top three overall and age group winners. Packet pick-up will be available the week prior to the event as well as the morning of the run beginning at 7 am.

Canned Food Collection
In addition to the 5K, a collection booth for canned goods will be set up before the race to benefit the Harvest Food Pantry. Please bring non-perishable food items to donate to this worthy cause. A list of accepted food items is available here: http://www.evanstonvineyard.org/harvest-donations

Packet Pick-Up
There will be two days for participants to pick up their packets. Early Packet Pick-Up will take place on Monday, November 21st, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Whole Foods (South Evanston location), 1111 Chicago Ave, Evanston, IL. Participants can also pick up their packet on the day of the race, Thursday, November 24th, between 7 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. at the Race Site (Centennial Park, the corner of Church and Sheridan).
