No Surprise: Evanston Snow Route Parking Ban and Snow Emergency Declared

The parking ban begins Wednesday night and the snow emergency begins Thursday morning.

The following is from the City of Evanston:

Due to the large snowfall in Evanston, a Snow Route Parking Ban has been declared for Wed., Feb. 5 and Thurs., Feb. 6On Wed., Feb. 5, the Snow Parking Ban will begin at 11 p.m. and end at 6 a.m.on Thursday. On Thurs., Feb. 6, the Snow Parking Ban will begin at 11 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. on Friday. Also, a Snow Emergency will be in effect between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 6 and Fri., Feb. 7

SNOW ROUTE PARKING BAN
Community members are requested to park according to the red, white and blue signs on the streets to allow the City to effectively clear the snow on Wed., Feb. 5 and Thurs., Feb. 6. Emergency sirens will sound at 8:15 p.m. to remind community members to move their cars.

During the Snow Route Parking Ban, main thoroughfares in Evanston designated as Snow Routes (maphere>>>) will be cleared first, and parking is illegal on these streets between 11 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 5through 6 a.m., Thurs., Feb. 6. Additionally, it will be illegal to park on these streets between 11 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 6 through 6 a.m., Fri., Feb. 7.

SNOW EMERGENCY
Residents are required to park on the odd-numbered side of the streets on Thurs., Feb. 6 and on the even-numbered side of the streets on Fri., Feb. 7. Most streets with parking on one side only now have permanent “ODD date” or “EVEN date” signs. This allows them to be plowed during snow emergencies or when voluntary compliance is requested.

Free Parking

In order to have fewer cars on Evanston streets, free parking in the three downtown self-parking garages will be available from 5 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 5 until 11:59 p.m. on Sun., Feb. 9.

The garages are located at: 

  1. Sherman Plaza (821 Davis St.)
  2. Maple Ave. (1800 Maple Ave.)
  3. Church St. (525 Church St.)
