Noyes Cultural Arts Center May Get $1M in Roof Repairs

The Evanston City Council is expected to consider the repairs Monday.

Evanston City Council members are scheduled to consider a $1.07 million contract for roof and chimney repairs at Noyes Cultural Arts Center, according to the city council’s meeting packet.

The project will include fixing the nine chimneys by rebuilding brick and replacing the chimney caps; replacing the roof; repairing the existing wood deck and rafters and providing attic ventilation. New lighting protection system will also be added as well as rebuilding the basement stairs on the south façade of the building.

City staff have recommended postponing other repairs such as repairing stepped cracks in brick facades and removing existing ivy from the face of the brick walls due to budget limitations.

The repairs will be funded by city capital improvement programs and a $750,000 grant from the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

The city would award the contract to G.A. Johnson & Son.
