NU Students Add to Evanston's Poverty Rate

Northwestern University students who live off-campus contribute to Evanston's poverty rate, according to a new U.S. Census Bureau study.

Nearly a third of Evanston residents categorized as living in poverty are off-campus college students, the majority attending Northwestern University, reported Evanston Now.

The statistics were revealed in a recently released report from the U.S. Census Bureau examining the effect of off-campus college students on poverty rates.

According to the report, Evanston's poverty rate would decrease from 13.2 percent to 9 percent if those students were not included, reported Evanston Now.
