Report Documents Progress of Evanston's Neighborhood Stabilization Program

Completion of Evanston's Neighborhood Stabilization Program is expected to result in job creation and retention, lower crime rates and new construction.

Northwestern University student William McLaughlin has created an in-depth report outlining the progress of Evanston's Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 (NSP2).

Evanston is using more than $18 million in NSP2 grant funding to acquire and/or rehabilitate foreclosed properties, redevelop a vacant industrial site and land bank for future development, according to the city's website.

Since receiving approval for its NSP2 grant proposal in 2009, the city has made significant progress towards meeting its goals. Of the 100 properties selected for the program in south and west Evanston, 91 have been acquired, of which 23 have been sold and 27 rented.

The report can be viewed in its entirety at www.cityofevanston.org.
