Should Evanston Raise the Legal Age to Buy Cigarettes to 21?

Some local health advocates have asked the city council to do just that.

Arguing it would be a public health benefit, a group of local health advocates has asked the Evanston City Council to raise the age at which cigarettes can be purchased in the city to 21, according to an article in the Evanston Review.

The group presented its case at a recent city council meeting, urging Evanston to follow a small number of communities that have endorsed the Tobacco 21 campaign. In 2005, Needham, MA became the first community to adopt Tobacco 21. A handful of other communities nationwide have followed since then, the article states.
