The Keg Reopens Pending Liquor License Appeal

The Keg's owner Tom Migon announced yesterday that he would reopen his bar that day while his appeal of the mayor's decision to revoke his liquor license is pending before the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, The Daily Northwestern reported. His lawyer said that bar's have the legal right to do that while appealing a decision.

Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl , citing the 111 alcohol-related ordinance citations the bar has received since 2005.

At the city Liquor Board hearing that preceded the decision, City Attorney Grant Farrar referred to a Twitter account that was run under The Keg's name and included texts alluding to the welcoming of under-age drinkers at the bar. However, the account was actually the work of a then Northwestern student.

Mignon referenced the Twitter account in his statement to The Daily Northwestern, saying he had no part in it and is opposed to its tone of laxity toward underage drinking, the article says. He also stated that the bar has stepped up efforts to combat fake IDs by buying a high-tech scanner to weed them out.
