Thursday Snow Update: Sheridan Road Re-Opens, More

A list of things you need to know about blizzard clean-up efforts.

Evanston is coming back to life ... slowly.

The streets of Evanston are clearing up, according to Suzette Robinson, Evanston's director of public works. She said about 90 percent of residential streets were plowed by Wednesday evening and Sheridan Road, , has re-opened.

Whether you're heading back to work or planning on enjoying another snow day, here's a list of things you need to know:

-District 65 schools will be closed Thursday, Evanston Township High School will be closed Thursday. (Sorry Northwestern! You have to go to class.)

-If you are going outside, try to avoid walking in the streets. Be alert.

-Drive with caution! Drivers should be alert and keep an eye out for pedestrians walking in the streets.

-If you live near a fire hydrant, please shovel it out.

-Anybody who parked their car at St. Francis hospital should move it by 8 a.m. today (Thursday).

-The three city garages are also open to help get cars off the street, and will be free of charge until midnight Friday (that's midnight going into Saturday).

-Trash pickup has been delayed until Friday.

-If you're planning on going sledding, remember that the big hill at (aka Mt. Trashmore) is off-limits to sledders. Snowboarding and skiing are also prohibited.

The following is the text of an emergency alert sent out by the city Wednesday night:

efuse, Recycling and Parking Update – 2/2/11

 

Due to the recent blizzard, refuse and recycling collection will proceed as follows:

Residential Refuse Collection Schedule:
• Residential refuse collection will be suspended on Thursday, February 3rd.
• Regular Wednesday refuse pick up will occur on Friday, February 4th.
• Regular Thursday refuse pick up will occur on Saturday, February 5th.
• Regular refuse collection will resume on Monday, February 7th.

Residential Recycling Collection Schedule:
• The City will suspend residential recycling collection for the remainder of this week. Regular residential recycling collection will resume on Monday, February 7th.

Condo Refuse Collection Schedule:
• Tuesday and Wednesday condo refuse collection occurred on Tuesday, February 1st.
• Thursday and Friday condo refuse collection will occur on Saturday, February 5th.

Condo Recycling Collection Schedule:
• Friday’s condo recycling collection will occur on Monday, February 7th.

Parking Update

As a reminder,  alternate parking for snow plowing begins with tonight’s Snow Route Parking Ban and continues Thursday February 3rd and Friday, February 4th as Snow Emergency parking regulations go into effect.

 

Please note that residents and neighbors near St. Francis Hospital, located at 355 Ridge Ave, can park their vehicles on the top floor of the hospital parking garage for the night, for free. Please note that vehicles must be out of the garage by 8 a.m. on Thursday, February 3rd.

 

Also, residents and neighbors near the following Evanston/Skokie District 65 school buildings:

  • Oakton school
  • King Lab
  • Haven
  • Chute
  • Kingsley
  • District 65 Administration Building

can park in school parking lots from 7:30 a.m.  – 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 3rd only.  Vehicles must be parked by 9 a.m. on Thursday.
