Want some beer with your slasher flick?

The City Council will vote on an ordinance that would allow for patrons of downtown to bring alcoholic beverages purchased onsite into any PG-13 or R-rated film, as well as approved special events. Currently, the ordinance allows customers to only bring alcoholic beverages into similarly-rated films in the theater’s arts cinema section.

Want some vodka with your cheese?

An ordinance has been recommended for action that would permit businesses to serve hard alcohol during tastings of fine cheeses, deli items and gourmet food products. Currently, the ordinance only allows beer and wine to be served during such events, but the City Council will consider a change to Class AA liquor license regulations at the request of Central Street Café, the only business in Evanston with a Class AA liquor license. The Liquor Control Review Board voted to recommend the amendment on Feb. 16.

Anti payday loan ordinance

The plan commission and city staff have recommended an ordinance for action that would essentially aim to curb the number of payday loans and consumer loan establishment in Evanston. The ordinance would only allow these businesses to exist by special use in C2 zoning districts, would distinguish them from other financial institutions in the City Code and would implement a mandatory 1,000-foot buffer between such establishments to avoid them popping up in clusters.
