Home Sales Up 9% in Evanston Compared to This Time Last Year

The median year-to-date sale price also increased 3.4 percent, according to the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors.

Home sales have increased in Evanston by 9.2 percent compared to this time last year, according to the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors (NSBAR).

As of November, a total of 440 detached single-family homes were sold in Evanston. By November 2012, in contrast, the organization recorded 403 detached single-family home sales.

Home prices also saw a slight uptick, from a median year-to-date price of $441,000 in November 2012 to $456,000 in November 2013, the NSBAR reports. That's an increase of 3.4 percent.

"Trends show an unprecedented November as summer buyers rolled into the fall market seeking the home best for their needs, as lower inventory means fewer homes for buyers to choose from,” said NSBAR president Jim Votanek.

While home sales increased in Evanston, some suburbs in the North Shore saw much bigger upticks in the volume of houses sold and average selling price. The number of homes sold year-to-date in Lake Forest, for example, increased 40.8 percent from November 2012 to November 2013, while the median selling price jumped 10.7 percent.
