25 Years of Devastation to State Support of Illinois Public Universities

We take a look at the ten most drastic shifts in state support for Illinois public institutions, documenting the changes in the share of revenue from state support in 1987 to 2012.

On Thursday, Illinois state university presidents addressed an Illinois Senate committee to warn of peril if the state continues to cut funding for higher education.

“Our tuition has doubled over the last several years at our institution as well as most others. We had to make up for that loss of state funds and these families just can’t afford it. The average family income in southern Illinois is $36,000 a year,” said Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard.

State support for public higher education institutions has been on a steady decline, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education. We take a look at the Illinois public universities with the 10 biggest declines here.

The State of Illinois government and it financial fiasco has been affecting ALL public schools, K-College, for years. They have continued to cut funding to schools for other feel good programs. Its no wonder there is a brain drain and lack of business in Illinois. Students go elsewhere for school many see the light and opportunity and are not coming back to work or live here. The city of Chicago has lost almost a half a million in population over the years. Tech companies bailing out because they can't find enough qualified applicants that want to live here.

But go ahead and keep electing the Democrats to represent our great liberal state. That's truly the definition of ignorant voters. TERM LIMITS and kick them all out!

The two major sports, football and basketball are travesties. Yet, the athletic director is paid over $500,000. For what. I could do a lousy job of recruiting and coaching for a lot less.
