Concerts Will Honor ETHS Band Director Retiring After 22 Years

In honor of David Fodor, director of Evanston Township High School's band and jazz programs for 22 years, students and alumni will perform two tribute concerts this spring.

On May 23, Evanston Township High School band director David Fodor will conduct his last concert at the high school after more than two decades there.

Fodor has been band and program director at ETHS for 22 years and will retire at the end of this school year. The May 23 concert is one of two programs that are scheduled in honor of Fodor this spring.

On May 23, the band will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium, at 1600 Dodge Ave. The event includes an alumni performance and a reception following the concert. Tickets are $3 at the door for adults, $1 for students and free for seniors or Booster members.

Two days later, on May 25, alumni are organizing a free jazz program showcasing alumni performers, according to the high school. The event takes place at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 1330 Ridge Ave., and will feature a reception and cash bar.

ETHS alumni are invited to participate in either of the musical events, no matter their musical ability, according to the high school, and can RSVP at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/fodorfest. Organizers are also looking for alumni volunteers to help out with the May 25 event. Anyone who is interested should contact FodorFest@gmail.com.

In honor of Fodor’s years of commitment and the more than 2,200 students he touched during that time, supporters have established a David B. Fodor Musical Residency Program at the high school to benefit students in all music programs. So far, the Fodor Fund has raised $96,494 toward a goal of $100,000, according to the fund’s website. Anyone can donate online at fodorfund.org.
