District 65 Appoints New Principal at Bessie Rhodes

Interim principal Carlos Mendez will formally take over as principal of Dr. Bessie Rhodes Magnet School.

The following is a release from Evanston-Skokie School District 65:

On Monday, March 18, the District 65 Board of Education formalized the appointment of Carlos Mendez as the principal for Dr. Bessie Rhodes Magnet School.  Mr. Mendez has been serving as interim principal since the beginning of the school year. 

“During his initial year at the school, Mr. Mendez has embraced parents, teachers and students as an instructional leader and advocate for the school,” said Superintendent Hardy Murphy.

Mr. Mendez is a highly motivated and skilled educational professional with more than a decade  of experience in the field of education. Before accepting the interim principal position at Dr. Bessie Rhodes, Mr. Mendez was part of the District 65 team as an assistant principal at Haven Middle School. Before coming to the District in 2011, he served as Assistant Principal at Albany Park Multicultural Academy in Chicago from 2007 through 2011.  He also has experience as the Area One Math and Science Coach for Chicago Public Schools. 

Mr. Mendez holds a Master of Arts degree in School Leadership from Concordia University, a Master of Arts degree in Urban Teaching from Columbia College, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Florida International University.

In acknowledging the appointment, Mr. Mendez spoke to the Board and expressed his appreciation to the teachers, students, and parents from Rhodes and said he looks forward to continuing the work that they started together this year.
