District 65 Hosts New School Year Mixers For Families

As the first day of school inches closer in Evanston, District 65 schools are offering meet and greets for parents and students. Several are scheduled this weekend or early next week, including some events just for families of incoming kindergarteners.

Here's a list of upcoming mixers, provided by District 65:

Do you have an incoming student who will attend DR. BESSIE RHODES MAGNET SCHOOL this fall?  If so, you are invited to the welcoming meet and greet for children and parents hosted by the Rhodes PTA Monday, August 27 from 5-6:30 pm at 3701 Davis Street.  This event is a great way to meet fellow parents and students. Parents from other grades will be on hand as well.  Drinks and snacks will be provided.  Please note there are no rain dates.  Please contact Jasmine Toussaint, 2nd grade parent and PTA community relations, for more information atjas_toussaint@yahoo.com.  

 KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE PLAY DATES Sunday, August 26th at 3pm. Join kindergarteners, 1st graders, and their families at a welcome party for the Martin Luther King Jr. Literary and Fine Arts School.  This is a great opportunity to meet other incoming students, their families and learn more about our school.  Meet at the playground: 2424 Lake St.  Please spread the word to any families you know who have incoming kindergarteners.  For more information please contact Stephanie Stiller at green654@aol.com or Julie Captain at jcaptain918@yahoo.com.

FAMILY SUMMER PICNIC will be held Saturday, August 25th 3PM to 7:30 PM (dinner at 5 PM) at Harms Woods, Grove 6 (located at Old Orchard and Harms Roads). All Walker students, families, teachers and staff (and their families) are welcome to attend. Families new to Walker for the coming school year are also invited and welcome to attend. Walker PTA is providing hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers. Each family is asked to bring their own beverages and either dessert or a side item to share. 

A  KINDERGARTEN PLAY DATE will be held at (Washington Street between Custer & Sherman) on August 25th at 10:00 a.m. All families of Lincoln School kindergarten students are welcome and invited to attend this school PTA-sponsored event. 

The  KINDERGARTEN ICE CREAM SOCIAL will be held on August 28th at 6:30 p.m. on the Oakton School Playground (west side of school - 436 Ridge Avenue). This is a PTA-sponsored event to introduce incoming kindergarten families to each other.

KINDERGARTEN MEET & GREET for families with incoming kindergarteners (Dewey Playground 1551 Wesley Avenue-Evanston) is on Sunday, August 26th 3:00-5:00pm. This is a great opportunity to meet your child's friends and classmates. The event is sponsored by the Dewey School PTA.

 KINDERGARTEN SUMMER MIXER - Sunday, August 26 at 4pm. Incoming kindergarten families are welcome to join us for an informal play group in the kindergarten playground at Washington School (it is the playground right off of Main Street right next to the east most parking lot) on Sunday, August 26 at 4pm.  At the playgroup you'll have a chance to meet other kindergarten families and ask PTA representatives any questions you may have.  For additional information, please contact Ness Baagil at ness_baagil@bus.emory.edu.

- 1ST AND 2ND GRADE TEAMS are hosting an OPEN HOUSE for students to meet their teachers. They will be welcoming their students on August 29th at 3:00 pm. At the school (914 Ashland Avenue, Evanston).

KINDERGARTEN PARENT OPEN HOUSE will be held on Monday, Aug 27, 7-8:30 pm at the School (2600 Colfax Avenue, Evanston). This is a casual meet and greet and Q&A session for parents. Principal Fred Hunter and teachers will be on hand to answer your questions. This is a "Parents Only" event.

POPSICLE PARTY FOR  KINDERGARTENERS and their families will be held on the Lincolnwood School (2600 Colfax Avenue) playground on Thursday, August 30th from 5:00 to 6:00p.m. Siblings are welcome! 

 PTA WILL HOST A NEW PARENT OPEN HOUSE on Tuesday August 28 from 7pm-8pm @ Willard Elementary in the auditorium. ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND SCHOOL WALK THROUGH will be held on Wednesday, August 29th. 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. for Kindergarten only and 6:00-6:30 p.m. for 1st - 5th grades. All Kingsley School families are invited and encouraged to attend. This is a chance to walk through the school, check out the classrooms, drop off school supplies (please be sure to label supplies). All children must be accompanied by an adult at this family event. Kingsley School is located at 2300 Green Bay Road, Evanston.
