ETHS Board Extends Supt. Witherspoon's Contract

Members of the District 202 board voted unanimously to extend Superintendent Eric Witherspoon's contract for an additional two years, to June 30, 2017.

The following press release was submitted by Evanston Township High School District 202:

The contract of Evanston Township High School District 202 Superintendent Eric Witherspoon was extended for two additional years during a special meeting of the Board on December 2. In a unanimous vote during the open session of the meeting, the District 202 Board of Education passed a resolution to authorize a new contract extension for Dr. Witherspoon through June 30, 2017.

Dr. Witherspoon has 25 years of experience as a superintendent. He began his career as a high school English teacher and was previously a director of a high school gifted education program. Prior to coming to Evanston, he served as a school superintendent in the Des Moines Public Schools. Dr. Witherspoon has served as superintendent of ETHS District 202 since 2006.

“I appreciate the support of the school board and this contract extension. We are making great strides on accomplishing the district goals and seeing some historic results. ETHS is a remarkable school, and I look forward to continuing the momentum for achieving better and better outcomes for students at ETHS,” stated Dr. Witherspoon.

For the last six years the ACT composite scores have been 23.0 or higher, including the highest ever (23.9) in 2013. There has been a 62% increase in the number of students taking AP exams since Dr. Witherspoon arrived in 2006-07. This is the most students in the history of the school taking AP courses (Advanced Placement), including the largest increase in history of students of color taking these courses.
