ETHS School Year Extended to Make Up for Lost Days

Four school days need to be made up due to closures for weather so far this school year.

Evanston Township High School students will end the year June 10 instead of June 6 in order to make up for four lost days due to bad weather, according to a note on the school's website. There are also some other changes to the schedule in February and March.

The following is the school's note to the community about the changes:

Dear ETHS Families: As you are aware, Evanston Township High School (ETHS) was closed school for two (2) additional days this week, January 27 and 28, 2014, due to extreme weather conditions. To date we have had four (4) school closures due to weather conditions for the 2013-14 school year.  To make up the number of days and hours of instruction as required by the Illinois School Code we have developed the following plan:

Make-up day #1:
ETHS will have a full day of school on Monday, February 17, 2014.  School will run on the regular PD Monday schedule with AM Support at 8:00am. Classes will begin at 8:32am and students will be dismissed at 2:36pm.

Make-up day #2:
ETHS will have a late start day of school on Friday, March 14, 2014. We will open school on March 14 according to the Late Start Day schedule. Classes will begin at 9:40am and students will be dismissed at 3:35pm. There will be no AM Support on this day.

ETHS will have a full day of school on Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
Second semester exams will not be held these days as originally scheduled.

  • School will run on a PD Monday schedule on June 2 with AM Support at 8:00am. Classes will begin at 8:32am and students will be dismissed at 2:36pm.
  • School will run on a regular day schedule on June 3 with AM Support at 8:00am. Classes will begin at 8:32am and students will be dismissed at 3:35pm.

Semester exams will be given on June 4, 5, & 6, 2014. The revised semester exam schedule will be distributed later this school year.

Make-up day #3: ETHS will have a semester exams make-up day and grading day for teachers on Monday, June 9. Students are not required to be at school on this day if they do not have a scheduled make-up exam. Teachers/staff will work their regular schedules on this day.

Make-up day #4: ETHS will have its last day of school for students in grades 9-11 on Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Originally, the last day of school was scheduled for June 6. School will operate on a special last day schedule. Illinois state law requires that students must be in school for a minimum of five (5) hours on the last day of school starting in June 2013. Classes will begin at 8:32am and students will be dismissed at 1:45pm.Lunch will be served on this day. Attendance will be recorded.

The first day of Summer School at ETHS will be Thursday, June 12, 2014. Due to the adjusted school year schedule, Session 1 of Summer School will start on Thursday, June 12 and will include instructional days on Friday, June 13 and Friday, June 20, 2014. Attendance is required on these days. Session 2 of Summer School begins on July 2 as originally scheduled.
