Freelance Writing

If you’re not sure how to break into magazine or blog writing, the answer is simple. When in doubt, write what you know.

This 6-week class will focus on telling a good story, whether you’re writing a magazine article, blog post, restaurant review, or a travel piece. In fact, this class will allow you to experiment with many forms of freelance writing that you can continue to develop into a business, use on your personal blog, or develop a collection of essays.

Field trips, writing assignments and studying published work are all part of the experience. We’ll also discuss developing the tools to help you network, find assignments, write query letters, and develop editorial relationships.

Students will have the opportunity to write and workshop several pieces during this course with the goal of producing at least one magazine/blog article (350-1,000 words) that is ready for submission – and publication!
