Kiwanis Presents Distinguished Service Award to Evanston Township H. S. Safety Officer

From ETHS

Each spring the Kiwanis Club of Evanston honors the Fire, Police and Public Safety officers of the Evanston community for Distinguished Service.  Some fifty friends, family and fellow officers joined together on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, to show the community’s appreciation for a job well done.

Those honored included Dexter Calhoun, a public safety officer at ETHS.  He received a plaque acknowledging his contributions to the well being of the Evanston community.

Dexter Calhoun, a 2003 graduate of ETHS, was commended for his ability to relate to young people.  He told the group that he tells them they are accountable for their actions at the high school.  He was commended for defusing several situations which could have escalated into something serious, but did not because of his appropriate intervention.

The Kiwanis Club of Evanston, which recently celebrated its 90th year as one of Evanston’s premiere service organizations salutes the police, fire and public safety officers annually.
