Seth Meyers to Lead Northwestern Homecoming Parade Oct. 21

A notice from Northwestern University.

Seth Meyers, probably best known as the “Weekend Update” anchor on “Saturday Night Live,” will serve as the Grand Marshal during Northwestern University’s 2011 Homecoming parade and Pep Rally, Friday night (Oct. 21).

Press photographers are welcome to cover both events. (Note: Meyers will be unavailable for press interviews before or during his weekend campus visit.)

Meyers will lead the Homecoming Parade that starts at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Sheridan Road and Lincoln Street, and proceeds south on Sheridan Road to the Arch (the gateway to the University’s Evanston campus), at the northeast corner of Sheridan Road and Chicago Avenue.

Access into and from the main campus will be limited after 5:30 p.m. Friday. Access to most parking lots and campus driveway entrances east of Sheridan Road (from Lincoln Street to Chicago Avenue) will be closed until the pep rally area is cleared at approximately 9 p.m. Lincoln Street also will be closed to vehicle traffic and will remain closed until 9 p.m.

Meyers, a 1996 graduate of Northwestern’s School of Communication, will be among thousands of Northwestern alumni visiting the Evanston campus Homecoming Weekend Oct. 21 to 23. The weekend also is Reunion Weekend for the classes of 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006. The student-run Homecoming committee has selected “Purple Reign” as the 2011 homecoming’s theme and is encouraging student groups and community organizations to participate in Northwestern and/or Purple themes for their parade floats.
