The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, April 30 – May 6:

Sam Koloms, junior, baseball, Glenbrook South – Koloms gave up only four hits in a 4-1 victory over Niles West in a CSL South matchup. Koloms struck out six batters, allowed no earned runs, and improved his record to 4-1 on the season.

Shelia Grant-Shaffer, senior, track and field, Highland Park – Grant-Shaffer took home the shot put title at the CSL North track and field championships. Her throw of 40-3.5 was good enough to break a school record for the Giants.

Margaret Bamgbose, senior, track and field, Evanston – Bamgbose repeated as the CSL South champion in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 200-meter sprint. Her performance helped Evanston capture another conference championship.

Audrey Mang, senior, badminton, New Trier – Mang won the sectional championship in badminton singles last week. Mang finished second at the sectional championships last season to graduated teammate Mari Georgiadis, who won last year’s state championship.

Frank Perrone, junior, baseball, Maine South – Perrone smashed a three-run homer that accounted for all of Maine South’s runs in a big 3-2 win over New Trier in CSL South play. The Hawks remained undefeated in the conference.
