WHAT/WHO: For 104 years, sailors gather in Chicago to begin the 333-mile sailing race to Mackinac Island, Mich. The Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, presented by Veuve Clicquot, is one of the oldest and most prestigious freshwater sailing races. This year, “The Mac,” as the race is affectionately known, will host 350 boats with approximately 3,500 sailors competing in this world-class sporting event.

For the first time, Michigan Avenue Magazine has partnered with Chicago Yacht Club and Veuve Clicquot to help Chicago send its sailors off in style. An Ashore Thing is the Official Parade of Boats viewing party, taking place off the east end of Navy Pier. Open to the public, there will be activities for children, and live commentary about the boats as they pass by on their way to the starting area offshore. Enjoy an afternoon of luxury and celebrate one of Chicago’s favorite traditions. Pre-order special Veuve Clicquot picnic baskets by July 18 for pick-up on site.
