Evanston Speed Skater Greets Young Skaters Before Heading to Olympics

Brian Hansen, who was born in Evanston and grew up in Glenview, stopped by the Northbrook Speed Skating Club Tuesday before heading to Sochi.

Speed skater Brian Hansen stopped at the speed skating club where he started skating as a kid, before boarding a plan for the Olympics in Sochi this past Tuesday, according to NBC Chicago.

Hansen, who was born in Evanston, signed autographs at the Northbrook Speed Skating Club and told young skaters "if you guys like it, then do it, and stick with it," NBC Chicago reports.

After taking a silver in medal in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Hansen is slated to compete in four events this year: the 500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters and team pursuit.
