Northwestern Fires Basketball Coach Bill Carmody

After 13 seasons at the head of the Northwestern University men's basketball team, coach Bill Carmody is leaving the position, according to a statement on the university's website.

Northwestern University men's basketball coach Bill Carmody will not return next year after 13 seasons as head coach of the team, according to a statement on the university's website.

Athletic director Jim Philips gathered the team Saturday morning to break the news of Carmody's departure, according to ESPN

His leaves the school with a 192-210 record over 13 years, and a 13-19 record during the last season, according to Northwestern.

ESPN reports that the Wildcats are likely to consider Duke associate head coach Chris Collins, who is from Northbrook, and Lehigh University head coach Brett Reed. 

Philips was expected to hold a press conference in Evanston at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Chicago Tribune
