Ryan Field Goes Peanut-Free For Saturday's Football Game

Northwestern University will clean Ryan Field, and no peanuts will be sold or permitted inside for the game against Minnesota Saturday, Oct. 19.

Peanuts are verboten this Saturday at Ryan Field, when Northwestern University hosts what is believed to be the first peanut-free college football game.

Northwestern will clean the stadium thoroughly beforehand, to make sure there are no traces of peanuts, and no peanuts will be sold or permitted inside the field, according to a press release from the city.

"We hope that people attending the game will support this effort and the opportunity for Northwestern to reach out to a group of fans that may not have had the chance to experience Big Ten football before due to their food allergies," city spokesperson Erika Storlie said in a press release.

The Wildcats kick off against the Minnesota Golden Gophers for the Big Ten Legends Division game at 11 a.m.
