Evanston Boy Scout Troop Treks 100 Miles in New Mexico

Trip planned for a year to promote personal growth and teach survival and leadership skills; Evanston business owner played instrumental part in raising funds to make it possible.

 

Evanston Boy Scout Troop 916 recently took a 10-day trip to New Mexico where they ventured on a 100-mile trek through the Rocky Mountains. 

The trip, according to Assistant Scoutmaster Scott Prestangen, was meant to promote teamwork and leadership skills, while helping to build self-confidence amongst troop members.

"We're always looking for adventures for these boys as they go through the scouting program, to help them learn valuable skills; this was a long-term goal they prepared a tremendous amount for," Prestangen said. 

And the trip wouldn't have been possible if not for the generosity of Evanston businessman, Hecky Powell.
