Evanston Fourth of July 2013: What You Need to Know

Read on for details about the parade, fireworks and other celebrations on July 4, 2013.

This year's Fourth of July will be extra special, as the city celebrates its 150th anniversary. Here's what you need to know for July 4, 2013:

Tennis Finals take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Ackerman Park. Visit http://evanstontennis.org/fourth-of-july-tournament/ for a schedule of events.

Kid's activities start at 9 a.m. and include playground sports, rollerskating and refreshments. Visit http://www.evanston4th.org/schedule/ for a list of locations.

Central Street closes in stages in preparation for the parade. See our previous story for information on where and when.

A half-mile Kids Fun Run starts at 12:45 p.m. at Ackerman Park. $10 registration fee; open to kids 12 years old or younger. Register online or on race day at Ackerman Park from noon to 12:30 p.m. 

The parade kicks off at 2 p.m. from Central Park Avenue and Central Street and travels east along Central to Ryan Field at Ashland Avenue. 

A lakefront concert by the Palatine Concert Band begins at 7:30 p.m. in Dawes Park.

Fireworks go off at 9:15 p.m. from Clark Street beach, accompanied by a musical extravaganza. Tune your radio to 90.5 FM.
